gwu celebrates world penguin day with adjunct sustainability professor ron naveen
we’re here to celebrate world penguin day with adjunct sustainability professor ron naveen, the founder and president of the nonprofit science and educational organization, oceanites. this non-profit has been penguin-counting and monitoring antarctic penguin population changes for almost 30 years and has gained a unique perspective, witnessing climate change impacts first-hand at the southernmost part of our planet. as a research associate intern for oceanites and student at george washington university, i had the unique opportunity to speak with naveen directly on his research — including new tactics of drone use and thermal imaging in antarctica!
the behaviors and wellbeing of penguins can indicate a lot about climate change. how they adapt and react to changes in the antarctic peninsula can illuminate how we, as humans, are going to have to adapt to changes coming our way and those that are already here.
