a dinosaur returns: the project to restore lake sturgeon to new york waterways
since 1983, lake sturgeon have been labeled as a threatened species in the state of new york. the combination of their unique phenology and the impacts caused by human activities has led to the depletion of their once magnificent population.
to prevent the complete extirpation of this prehistoric fish, three scientists launched a project in 1993 to restore them. today, this project has expanded to include scientists from different agencies who are continuing to work tirelessly to ensure this species is restored to a point where they won’t be wiped out.
