the school of environmental and biological sciences (sebs) at rutgers university, in new brunswick, nj, is home to 21 science majors and 30 minors or certificates.  the planet forward themes of climate, energy, food, justice, water, policy and more are part of what we do.  students are invited to engage in science storytelling and science communication as part of their undergraduate or graduate programs.  

partnering sebs science storytellers and scientists have developed a collaborative, university-based science-in-action video storytelling model that translates science for public engagement and increases scientists’ relatability. several original science documentaries featuring scientists conducting research over time, and involving undergraduates in the creative storytelling process, have reached broad audiences through distribution platforms such as pbs, netflix, pivot and kanopy.

our vision is to empower students to learn how to create a healthy and sustainable future that balances the well-being of all living organisms with the heath of the earth. our mission is to create, disseminate and implement solutions to achieve a healthy and sustainable future.  we do this through research, education, entrepreneurship, outreach and through engagement.

sebs students are active in research and have access to our faculty’s research in order to share stories of success.
