joy reeves is a second-year master of environmental management student specializing in environmental economics and policy. joy earned a bachelor of arts degree in environmental science and policy from duke university in 2022. originally from frederick, maryland, she has worked in energy justice and advocacy for nonprofits such as the league of conservation voters and the rachel carson council. she is currently conducting energy research on critical mineral supply chain challenges and is presenting public comments and advocacy materials on the wood pellet industry’s harmful impacts in north carolina communities. joy’s passion is in environmental communication, as she has received formal training in science communication, created justice-oriented solar energy comic materials for younger students, and authored the book growing up in the grassroots: finding unity in climate activism across generations, published in 2020. joy was named a udall scholar in 2021 and hopes to continue her career in public service. her other professional interests include environmental conflict resolution, federal energy policy, and community-based environmental management.
