because of the complex chemical structure behind the single-use plastics, the average piece of plastic can take anywhere from hundreds to thousands of years to naturally biodegrade. every year, the amount of plastic waste entering the world’s oceans increases, and with over a century of our everyday use of plastics behind us, there are now trillions of pieces of plastic in the ocean. while today, the conversation around plastic is commonly focused around plastic straws and the harm they do to marine animals such as sea turtles, we need to step back and look at the bigger picture, that is, our plastic world.

my inspiration behind my story was conveying to the viewers just a small part of the long list of events that the earth has been through in the short time that we have been on this planet. beginning with the earth’s formation, and ending with the human population reaching 7 billion people, i think that it is important for us to realize that we are a part of earth’s story, and that we are critical writers in this story that in the light of climate change and other human-related events is heading in a bad direction.
