can painting a mountain restore a glacier?

slowly but surely an extinct glacier in a remote corner of the peruvian andes is being returned to its former colour, not by falling snow or regenerated ice sheets, but by whitewash.

it is the first experimental step in an innovative plan to recuperate peru’s disappearing andean glaciers.

but there is debate between those who dismiss the idea as just plain daft and those who think it could be a simple but brilliant solution, or at least one which should be put to the test….http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/latin_america/10333304.stm

would you give bp 300 million now?? //www.getitdoneaz.com/story/would-you-give-bp-300-million-now/ thu, 10 jun 2010 15:21:30 +0000 http://dpetrov.2create.studio/planet/wordpress/would-you-give-bp-300-million-now/ bp has coated many sea birds with disgusting oil. they are also in line for federal fast track money for the below wind project. it would be next to the colorado river, (lake mead) not far from a california condor area. yes, the obama administration may give british petrolium as much as 300 million dollars up front to build this wind project which will destry over 35,000 acres of terrestrial ecosystem. i guess destroying marine ecosystems is not enough. why would the democrats reward these criminals even more?

http://www.blm.gov/az/st/en/prog/energy/wind/mohave.html

the bureau of land management, kingman office, is preparing an environmental impact statement (eis) on the potential effects of issuing rights-of-way for a large-scale wind energy project and ancillary facilities in northwestern arizona.

bp wind energy of north america proposes building the mohave county wind farm project comprising up to 335 wind turbine generators on federally managed lands in mohave county. the site – 41,577 acres of public land — is in the white hills area about 40 miles northwest of kingman and 20 miles southeast of hoover dam.

the project is anticipated to provide up to 500 megawatts (mw) of electricity. up to 235 wind turbine generators are proposed for the first phase. ten additional wind turbine generators could be installed on adjacent private lands in the first phase. transmission lines are planned to connect to existing western area power administration lines.

subsequent phases are proposed for up to 100 wind turbine generators.

using renewable energy environmentally //www.getitdoneaz.com/story/using-renewable-energy-environmentally/ sun, 03 jan 2010 16:25:32 +0000 http://dpetrov.2create.studio/planet/wordpress/using-renewable-energy-environmentally/ hello,

while i am all for producing clean, renewable energy, it should be done in a responsible way. i keep reading how forests store c02. did you know that living desert ecosystems do it better? c4 plants are masters in storing c02. this is why it is environmental genocide to plow up millions of acres of mojave and sonoran desert to go “green” in an attempt to plaster them all with solar energy which need space but many also use too much water, which the desert does not have. the deserts are not wastelands, they are living, old growth ecosystems. using clean energy is good. killing ecosystems to do it is bad. there are plenty of already disturbed mines, rooftops and parking lots to develop solar energy on in the southwest us.

please see this web site for more information: www.basinandrangewatch.org

thanks, happy new year
