with its expansive marine life, breathtaking natural wonders, and abundant renewable energy sources, iceland is uniquely positioned at the forefront of the next chapter of conservation.

several of the 2024 planet storyfest winners went with lindblad expeditions on a circumnavigation of iceland to engage in experiential learning and cover compelling stories about the nation and its unique environment.

along with planet forward director of academic adventures dr. imani m. cheers, and program coordinator elena mantilla, the planet forward storyfest winners embarked on a 10-day circumvention of iceland aboard the national geographic explorer. during this expedition, the students explored the islands of flatey, vigur, and grímsey, engaged with naturalists to learn about icelandic geology and history, and came face-to-face with an abundance of iceland’s marine life.

while on this trip, the storyfest winners developed story ideas relating to the ecology, wildlife, and conservation projects that call iceland home.

from a deep dive into the current state of iceland’s puffin conservation, to a short documentary covering iceland’s use of renewable energy, these stories cover a diverse range of topics.
