durand-eastman beach has been a part of rochester for over a century. the beach is a welcome relief for the city residents. whether walking on the beach or swimming in the water, everyone can enjoy this beautiful public environment. one day in 2020 when i visited the beach, i was shocked to find that the lake had entirely consumed the beach. suddenly, i was very aware that this place may be more fragile than i had once thought. i set out to answer if the beach has at other times been inaccessible to residents and if the beach will still be accessible in the future.
