the george washington university<\/a> is at the forefront of sustainability on college campuses, consistently ranking well in the sierra club\u2019s list of most environmentally friendly schools<\/a>. the university offers more than 250 courses related to sustainability, and 40 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate sustainability programs. in fall 2012, gw established a sustainability minor<\/a>, allowing interested students to study environmental challenges and developments. kathleen merrigan<\/a>, former u.s. department of agriculture deputy secretary, was named the university\u2019s first executive director of the sustainability institute, gw\u2019s sustainability research center. in 2014, the university opened its first leed \u201cplatinum\u201d certified building, the milken institute school of public health, and is committed to building a minimum of leed \u201csilver\u201d certification on future projects, and, also in 2014, as a part of the capital partners solar project, gw made a commitment to have more than half of its electricity come from solar power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
