that\u2019s the solution stan jackson, president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anacostiacdc.com\/\">anacostia economic development corporation<\/a> (aedc), was on the search for when he came across an opportunity to partner with <a href=\"http:\/\/brightfarms.com\/\">brightfarms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width:400px; float: right; margin-left: 30px; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 15px; background-color: #e1efc6;\">\n<h2>how can i learn more?<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>find out if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ers.usda.gov\/data-products\/food-access-research-atlas\/go-to-the-atlas.aspx#.uqn1cmtf3kw\">you\u2019re living in a food desert<\/a>, or how close you live to one.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">be part of the solution, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/thenextweb.com\/lifehacks\/2012\/10\/06\/farm-or-fancier-phone\/#!pldhn\" style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">try your hand at urban farming<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">, all for less than the cost of a new iphone.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">find out how <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/thesalt\/2013\/10\/07\/230142780\/food-truck-pioneer-battles-food-deserts-with-high-cuisine\" style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">one man is using his food truck<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"> to feed the inner city, then come up with your own solution to the nation\u2019s food deserts.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"rteright\" style=\"margin-left:.25in;\"><em>&#8211; jenny rabago<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>brightfarms <a href=\"http:\/\/brightfarms.com\/s\/#!\/our_farms\/farm\/dc-farm\">will build an urban farm in ward 8<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dcist.com\/2014\/02\/huge_greenhouse_in_southeast_will_s.php\">partner with retail stores around the city (like giant<\/a>) to sell produce. about two to five percent of the one million pounds of produce will go back to the residents of ward 8.<\/p>\n<p>tackling the food desert problem in dc will not be easy \u2013 <a href=\"\/\/www.getitdoneaz.com\/infographic\/what-is-a-food-desert\">check out our infographic for more on what food deserts are and a map of how bad the problem is in dc<\/a> \u2013 but this upcoming&nbsp;urban farm, which will use <a href=\"http:\/\/ag.arizona.edu\/ceac\/what-hydroponics\">less water and produce higher and more stable yields<\/a>, could be part of the solution.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height:1.6em\">do you or someone you know live in a food desert?
