\npaul tergat, former marathon world record holder, founder of the paul tergat foundation<\/a>, member of the international olympic committee<\/a>, and word food program ambassador<\/a> is a success story of the wfp\u2019s school lunch program<\/a>. he is working to eliminate world hunger<\/a>, something we\u2019re all aware of but may not know the facts<\/a> on.<\/p>\n

fact: <\/strong>approximately 925 million people in the world do not eat enough to be healthy<\/a>. that means that one in every seven people on earth goes to bed hungry each night.<\/p>\n

fact:<\/strong> well over half of the world\u2019s hungry people\u2013some 578 million people\u2013live in asia and the pacific region.<\/a> africa accounts for just over one quarter of the world\u2019s hungry population.<\/p>\n

fact:<\/strong> it costs just us $0.25 per day to provide a child with all of the vitamins and nutrients he or she needs to grow up healthy.<\/p>\n

fact:<\/strong> in 2012, the united nations world food programme (wfp) provided school meals to 24.7 million children<\/a> in 60 countries.<\/p>\n

fact:<\/strong> school meals encourage poor households<\/a> to send children to school and keep them there.<\/p>\n

fact:<\/strong> wfp works with governments<\/a> to allow them to continue wfp-funded program themselves and to create and run their own sustainable school meal program.<\/p>\n
