imagine there is a pipe from the sea discharging as much fresh water as needed.\u00a0there is no visible explanation as to its source.<\/p>\n
my idea requires no new technology.\u00a0eighty percent of the worlds population lives with in sixty kilometers of the sea.\u00a0over the horizon 10k out to sea in international waters there is a movable platform the same as an off shore oil rig.\u00a0on this rig is a state of the art desalination plant.\u00a0even very large desalination plants are in fact quite small and can easily fit onto a platform.\u00a0since fresh water is processed off shore, there is an 80% saving in water movement to shore.\u00a0normally, two thirds of the water processed on land is pumped back out to sea.\u00a0real estate is not a problem because none is required.\u00a0the salinity problem associated with desalination plants is eliminated because the desalination is processed far out at sea.\u00a0compared to the natural evaporation of sea water, off shore-processed sea water represents a minute fraction of salinity.<\/p>\n
there are two ways to power the platform.\u00a0firstly, two wind generators positioned next to the platform.\u00a0sea positioned platform generators are again old technology.\u00a0or alternately like on thousands of military & commercial boats, a small nuclear engine–a tried and true old technology alternative.\u00a0half as much power is required to drive a desalination plant at sea (possibly far less) because if the water is taken from the bottom of the ocean, the pressure from deep down can actually force the sea water through the desalination filters.\u00a0when fresh water is not required the platforms can be moved to another country and plugged in.\u00a0there is no delay for fresh water when required.\u00a0platforms could be manufactured any where in the world then moved to drought areas.\u00a0the cost of manufacture would be a fraction of normal desalination plants because there is no government interference.\u00a0maintaining an on shore desalination plant possibly for years during times of plentiful water would no longer be a cost.\u00a0the only cost to consumers is fresh water.
\nas the platforms are not owned by governments there is no infrastructure cost preventing water when and as required.\u00a0world food shortages could be eliminated.\u00a0water platforms could be plugged in to uninhabited barren areas of the world where the earth is fertile but water has been the missing ingredient.<\/p>\n
