{"id":43148,"date":"2024-11-26t19:33:58","date_gmt":"2024-11-26t19:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"\/\/www.getitdoneaz.com\/?p=43148"},"modified":"2024-11-26t20:36:18","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26t20:36:18","slug":"water-dialogue-world-food-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/\/www.getitdoneaz.com\/story\/water-dialogue-world-food-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"water dialogue at the world food forum discusses water scarcity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>water scarcity is one of the \u201cgreatest challenges\u201d facing humanity, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/events\/detail\/rome-water-dialogue-2024\/en\">food &amp; agriculture organization of the united nations<\/a> (fao). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on oct. 17, 2024, as a part of the world food forum in rome, italy, the fao hosted a discussion session for high-level leaders and representatives to discuss their global framework on water scarcity in agriculture, or wasag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>wasag is a partnership initiative of fao and brings together \u201cgovernment agencies, international organizations, research institutions, advocacy groups and professional\/membership organizations,\u201d according to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/wasag\/en\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>their discussion session outlined 10 ways that wasag plans to build upon their partnership with the fao and combat water scarcity. the session had three goals in mind: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to enhance collaboration and mobilize commitments,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to agree on key wasag governance, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to highlight priorities in addressing scarcity in agriculture, while strengthening the connections between the agriculture and water sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>water scarcity has already caused massive crop failures worldwide, and this issue will only continue to grow. the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/events\/detail\/rome-water-dialogue-2024\/en\">fao reports<\/a> that around the world we&#8217;ll need to produce 50% more food by 2050, when the global population is expected to hit 10 billion \u2014\u00a0requiring at least 25% more water. the broader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/wasag\/en\/\">goal<\/a> of wasag is to make water more accessible to ensure a higher level of food security.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cwasag is core to fao\u2019s commitment to integrated water resources management for the effective transformation of global agrifood systems to be more efficient, more inclusive, more resilient and more sustainable,\u201d fao director-general qu dongyu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/wasag\/en\/\">stated<\/a> on the wasag website.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>wasag was created in 2016 to help fao <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/wasag\/overview\/en\/#:~:text=since%20the%20global%20framework%20on,supported%20at%20various%20international%20instances\">uphold<\/a> its commitments related to the 2030 sustainable development agenda. wasag focuses on sustainable development goals 2 and 6, which include alleviating poverty and creating clean water and sanitation, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4000\" height=\"3000\" src=\"\/\/www.getitdoneaz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/img_2030.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43178\" style=\"width:589px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">an overview&nbsp;of the plenary at the world food forum hosted by the fao where the rome water dialogue took place.
