my name is emily hammermeister. i'm a senior at loyola university chicago, majoring in environmental science and minoring in studio art. i grew up in a suburb of the chicagoland area, right in the backyard of huge refineries, spewing who knows what into the atmosphere. it always made me feel strange every time i would see them, but it wasn't until i took an environmental science course in high school (thanks ms. siegers!) that that strange feeling transformed into a passion. since then, my mind seems to solely think about one thing: the environment. what can i do to make a difference?<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n

i am interested in the science, politics, and social injustice that surrounds environmental science. and although i am uncertain in my final career choice as of now, i believe that journalism is a gateway for change.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
